Pears...

...not sure of the variety, there wasn't a name on the packet ;o) so I'll just go with... pears...

Going Bananas... part two...

...thank heavens I didn't get around to baking the second tray with the peeled bananas last night. I was hit by lots of yawning and the stunning lack of ability to keep my eyes open, so I toddled off to the land of nods at quite a respectable hour (for me anyway!). This morning looking closely at the peeled bananas, I noticed that they are totally lacking in texture, as you can see from the one in the photos below...

...they look passable...but...

...I'm a right finicky-pernickity - so I'll give them a bit of touch up and hopefully they will be good to go.

ps, excuse the tattiness of the impromptu banana holder!

Going Banana's...

...with the lack of daylight hours!!! So what I've been doing lately is mixing up my clay for the days minis in the morning, then working the rest of the day (in near darkness after 1pm) on sculpting. Then 'baking' my creations last thing at night. However, last night after baking I couldn't sleep (at times I can be a notorious night-owl!), so with the aid of my daylight lamp and a bunch of real bananas I managed to recreate a pretty close to the real thing shade of banana clay...

I couldn't wait to see if the colour stayed true after baking, so they went into the little oven on their own. Checking the results in daylight this morning I was super pleased to see that they still looked good. Today I've been using up most of the remaining banana clay and after a trayful I still have some banana skin colour left over, this evening, I'll be making some peeled bananas with those leftovers and a small amount of banana flesh that I mixed up earlier.

Back to my bananas and grumbling about how dark it is - how I miss the summer nights when it would be light outside right up until 9.30pm :o(

Finally...

...some photos that have came out better than the plums in my previous post...

...some nice fuzzy looking peaches and some...

...super tiny gooseberries. There are some more photos of these with size references in my Flickr album for anyone who is interested. The fruit from both of these are going towards an order that I am working on, not sure about the basket and the bowl at the moment, waiting to see what they all look like together in the arrangement... somehow I don't think the bowl is going to be quite right for requirements so I might have to make a tiny punnet for the gooseberries.

Plums... No Matter How Hard I Try...

...I can not get a good photo of these little beggars...

...you can't see the shading or the delicate white 'bloom' on them at all...

...so these photos will have to do :o( The US quarter is exactly the same size as one of our GB 10p pieces, plums made as part of an order.

hope you are all having more luck with your photos than I am right now!

Professor Sprout: "Bubotubers...

... they need squeezing. You will collect the pus."
Seamus Finnigan: "The what?"
Professor Sprout: "Pus Finnigan, pus!"

My interpretation of said Bubotubers...

...resembling a large black slug, a Bubotuber is a type of magical plant which squirms of its own accord and is covered in pus-filled yellow-greenish protrustions. The diluted pus can be used in the creation of magical acne cure... but used undiluted and it can cause immediate and huge painful boils on any skin it comes into contact with!

Inspirational Artwork...

...from the Thorne Miniature Rooms Collection at the Art Institute of Chicago...

...it's hard to believe that these rooms are 1:12 scale and even harder to believe that they were all built between 1932 and 1940 (no precision laser etching back then!).

There are 68 rooms in total showcasing interiors from the late 13th Century through to the 1930's.

Donated to the Art Instute by Mrs James Ward Thorne, who had each room meticulously constructed, decorated and furnished to her specifications by master craftsmen.

To view the entire 68 rooms click on each thumbnail in the online collection and then click on the thumbnail again to enalrge each image.

Claying Around...

...with much needed supplies from Clayaround!

On Saturday (amidst much sniffling, coughing and spluttering) I came to a grinding halt with one of the commissions I am working on. A total lack of brown and yellow Kato! Problem... no shop within a hundred miles (that I am aware of) sells the stuff... another problem... I need to pay by paypal... Solution... how delighted was I when I stumbled upon Clayaround? They accept paypal, I got an email from a REAL person to tell me when my order was going to be despatched... AND... my order arrived the day after despatch (and thats with the horrendous mess that Royal Mail is in at the mo').
From what I can tell they are a relatively new shop, they sell Kato, SculpeyIII, Premo and Studio. But there is a note on there saying that they will also be stocking Fimo. The prices are the same as the other non-paypal accepting stores in the UK that I have bought from in the past, and whats more... if you spend over £30... you qualify for FREE shipping! I'll definitely be buying from them again :o)
It's good to share :o)
